Annals of the Human Mind

Just listened to the dvd commentary for Walk Hard. Those guys actually thought they made a funny movie.

(Why was I listening? I was doing my qi gong and pilates, and the radio is boring.)

  1. It was clear that they had IDEAS about what they were trying to do.

They just forgot that Ron Burgundy actually treated itself like a narrative instead of a spoof.

  2. No, but judging by what you said (and from watching the film), I surmised where the film went rogue.

  3. Huh. I mean, all I said was that they thought the film was funny, with the implication that it wasn’t.

The fellows also thought the film worked as a story. They reported themselves to be quite moved by certain incidents in Dewey Cox’s life. So my guess is they treated the film as a narrative as well as a spoof but that they weren’t much good at either.

  4. The problems with these types of films are that they never know what to set the volume at. A good spoof film, like Airplane, knows exactly what it is, while at the same time holds a high respect for storytelling. It knows how to mix them.

I’m not sure if it would of been any different given a different crew and writer.
