Cannibals as glamorous shadow caste

It seems like somebody must have done this: the creatures with the high cheekbones and ageless skin aren’t vampires, they’re cannibals. That is, the shadowy caste of lovely, damned immortals isn’t made up of undead beings who suck blood; it’s made up of humans who have learned how to escape death and stay young by eating other humans.

Thought of that because of a post at the Daily Dish.

  1. You know, Brother Blood, the old Teen Titans villain sort of qualifies (bathed in blood to retain his youth.)

God, that Teen Titans fight with Brother Blood was crap. Issue after issue with them swimming around in his blood pool, nothing else happening. Interminable.

  2. "Brother Blood … sort of qualifies (bathed in blood to retain his youth.)"

Yeah, I think that idea has been around, the bathing in blood to stay young. It sounds like it would have been in a Hammer film.

"Issue after issue with them swimming around in his blood pool, nothing else happening."

Decompressed storytelling, and not only does it go slow, it's in a disgusting environment.

  3. Have you guys seen Let The Right One In yet? Just watched it again last night. THat's it. Curious about your takes on it.

  4. The title's great, but Wiki's synopsis says the movie's about drinking blood and vampires: "Virginia realizes that she has become a vampire and decides she cannot cope with it. In the morning, she asks a nurse to open the blinds in her room. When the sunlight streams in, she bursts into flames."

I was thinking more of people who actually cut up other people's bodies and eat them. The idea just doesn't come up in entertainment, not anywhere like vampirism and bloodsucking do. Hannibal Lecter is the only cannibal-by-choice I can think of from books/movies/tv.
