Whoops

I was reading this pretty entertaining interview with Fred Van Lente over at Comic Book Resources, and he was talking about his various projects like Hercules and Amazing Philosophers, or whatever; and I thought, well, maybe I should look for some of that….

And then I realized that he’s the guy who wrote Marvel Zombies 4.

I felt a little betrayed, honestly.

It just goes to show; giving a good interview and writing a good comic are two separate skills.

  1. i really enjoyed action philosophers. it reminded me somewhat of one of my favourite comics of all time: epicurus the sage.

no comparison in terms of art, of course. oh sam kieth, you crazy diamond.

  2. Huh. Well, maybe I'll give it a shot if I see it. It's hard to imagine that anyone who wrote Marvel Zombies 4 could write anything that didn't suck…but stranger things have happened, I suppose.

  3. Spawn and Voodoo look like works of unparalleled genius compared to Marvel Zombies 4.

  4. I also throw my support behind Action Philosophers, and also Comic Book Comics, a sort of history of comics by the same creative team. Of course, I haven't read much philosophy or taken courses or anything, so if you already know about that stuff, you might find the whole thing tiresome. And I recall Van Lente giving a shout-out to Epicurus the Sage in one of the "recommended reading" sections. I gotta read that one.

I look at Marvel Zombies as paycheck work for the guy; he's done plenty of that sort of thing for Marvel. Apparently that one is particularly bad; I dunno, I haven't read it. I haven't read Incredible Hercules either, but it's supposed to be a lot of fun.
